The Lango Cultural Foundation has pledged to continue its activities even if the government declines their request to degazette Eng. Dr. Moses Michael Odongo Okune and officially recognize Amb. Dickson Ogwang Okul as the new Won Nyaci.
Speaking to journalists on Friday at Lira Valley Resort, Jacob Ocen, the spokesperson for the foundation, revealed that they have already submitted letters to various government offices introducing Amb. Dickson Ogwang Okul as the successor to Yosam Odur for the position of Won Nyaci of Lango.
Ocen stated that Amb. Ogwang Okul should be gazetted as the new Won Nyaci, citing his election by a significant number of Lango people—76,307—compared to just over 1,300 votes for Eng. Dr. Odongo Okune. He emphasized that they will continue to recognize Ogwang Okul’s leadership even if the government refuses to degazette Odongo Okune, whom they view as imposed on the Lango community.
Ocen also mentioned that President Museveni is expected to be the chief guest at Amb. Ogwang Okul’s coronation. He urged the Lango people to remain calm during this time.
