The much-anticipated Post Primary School Tournament for Lira City is set to begin on Friday, March 14, with both private and government-owned secondary schools participating in the annual competition.
Speaking to our reporter on Monday evening, Deogracious Opio, the General Secretary of the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), confirmed that all necessary arrangements have been made to ensure a smooth tournament.
Preparations will start with a field inspection on Tuesday, March 12, followed by player vetting and verification on Wednesday and Thursday at Ambalal Primary School. Opio stressed the importance of this process in maintaining fairness and preventing malpractice ahead of the tournament’s kickoff.
To accommodate the matches, the committee has designated four football fields for boys at Anai Primary School, Ireda, Erute, and Nancy School for the Deaf. Meanwhile, girls’ matches will be played at Lira Modern, Adyel, Lira Primary, and Ambalal playgrounds.
Opio encouraged all stakeholders, including school representatives and the public, to take part in the verification process to prevent irregularities such as fielding ineligible players and document falsification. He reaffirmed the association’s commitment to upholding integrity and fair play in this year’s edition of the tournament.
Football fans and the entire Lira City community are invited to witness the excitement as young talents showcase their skills in the 2024 Lira City Post Primary School Tournament.
