Kole district School in Crisis as Storm leaves pupils learning under Trees

Over 300 pupils at Alito Primary School in Kole District are studying under trees after strong winds blew off the roofs of their classrooms.
The school’s headteacher, Syrus Okori, told our reporter that heavy rain, accompanied by strong winds on Sunday evening at 8 pm ripped off the roof of a block that housed his office, two storage rooms, and the Primary 6 and Primary 7 classrooms.
Okori said the incident left them with no alternative space to relocate the learners, as the school already struggles with inadequate and dilapidated structures. As a result, they have been forced to conduct lessons for 350 pupils from Primary 6 and Primary 7 under a tree which is a difficult situation during the rainy season.
He called upon district leaders and well-wishers to support the renovation of the damaged structure to ensure effective learning for the pupils.
Moses Oyaro, the chairperson of the school’s management committee, stated that since the school was established in the 1980s, no renovations have been carried out, leaving most of the buildings in a deteriorated state.
He expressed disappointment with Kole District leaders, accusing them of ignoring their requests for renovations over the past decade, which has negatively impacted the well-being of the learners.
However, Moses Ojok, the LC3 chairperson of Alito Town Council, acknowledged the issue and assured that he would forward the matter to the district authorities for intervention.
