Speaking to our reporter, Victor Okwir, the District Surveillance Focal Person for Lira District, confirmed that the victim is a two-month-old baby girl from Awia-Amor village in Agali Subcounty.
Okwir stated that the baby was initially admitted to a nearby clinic before being transferred to Lira Referral Hospital for further treatment. A sample was taken on March 20, 2025, and results returned positive on March 26, 2025, leading to the baby’s isolation for proper care.
He expressed optimism about the baby’s recovery, noting that the child’s condition is steadily improving and they expect him to be discharged soon.
However, Okwir raised concerns about the general lack of awareness regarding the disease among the local population, which often results in delayed medical attention.
He urged the community to remain vigilant, avoid sharing personal items, and seek medical attention promptly at nearby health facilities.
Meanwhile, in Lira City, Kalisto Omodo, the Surveillance Focal Point Person, reported that they have recorded 14 cases of Mpox, though no deaths have been reported.
He called on the community to cooperate with village health teams to ensure the proper management of suspected cases.
Uganda has so far recorded 4,810 confirmed cases and 37 deaths.
