Man Faces Aggravated Homosexuality Charges for Assaulting Minor

Written by on April 24, 2025

Hashim Yasin, a 24-year-old Islamic teacher, has confessed to sexually assaulting a 10-year-old boy on multiple occasions.

Yasin, who was arrested on Tuesday, faces charges of aggravated homosexuality following allegations of defiling the minor.

According to Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga police spokesperson, Yasin is attached to Aswar Mosque, located along the Lira-Kitgum Road in Atego Village, Lira City East Division where the victim also resides.

Investigations reveal that on Easter Monday, the victim, along with three other children, went to Yasin’s house. The suspect allegedly took them to his bedroom, where he played a cartoon for them. Afterward, he reportedly sodomized the boy in the presence of the other children. Following the assault, Yasin allegedly gave the boy 1,000 shillings to share with his friends.

The victim later complained of pain and confided in his mother, who immediately reported the case to the local LC1 chairperson, John Ayia. The chairperson then alerted the boy’s father, who was away on business in Acholi. Upon his return on Tuesday, the father worked with authorities to ensure Yasin’s arrest. The suspect is currently detained at Lira Central Police Station.

Police conducted a search of Yasin’s home, where they reportedly recovered crucial evidence to support the case in court. The victim’s father has also been given medical forms to facilitate his son’s examination. During interrogation, Yasin allegedly admitted to abusing the child in January, March, and April 2024.

Speaking to Unity FM, the victim’s father expressed fears that his son may suffer long-term trauma. He also raised concerns that other children may have been targeted, as Yasin was known to frequently associate with minors under 10. The father appealed to human rights activists for support, fearing that the suspect’s relatives might attempt to bribe their way out of justice.

Hashim Yasin, a Kakwa by tribe, hails from Arua District in West Nile. Authorities continue to investigate the case as the suspect awaits prosecution.
